Presentation Topics

General Wellness

College can be a pivotal time for developing health behaviors that foster students’ overall health and well-being. This presentation shares tips and resources for supporting your general health at The Capstone and provides a brief overview of the services from the Dept. of Health Promotion & Wellness.

Eating Disorders/Body Image

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental health condition and body image issues continue to be rampant with the existence of social media. This presentation will discuss what it means to have a healthy body image and how to determine if you have a healthy relationship with food.

Nutrition

Eating healthy and affordably can be easier said than done. This program covers foundational nutrition knowledge to help college students succeed in eating for their overall health and well-being.

Sexual Health

STI Prevention: There are nearly 26 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the US each year. Over half of these infections will be in young people aged 18 – 24 years old. In this presentation, we will discuss STIs, STI prevention, barrier methods, and communication skills for talking to your partner, as well as campus and local resources.

Healthy Relationships

Healthy Relationships: Managing relationships can be a difficult skill to cultivate. In this presentation, we will define the characteristics of a healthy relationship and help cultivate the skills necessary to identify the signs of an unhealthy relationship. Participants will also learn to navigate difficult conversations and set boundaries.

Mindful Eating

Is your mind full or are you mindful while eating? This one hour presentation reviews the benefits and components of mindful eating and walks participants through a mindful eating experience with a small food item.

Labyrinth Walk

Labyrinths have been used for centuries as a form of walking meditation and a mindfulness tool. While labyrinths may look like a maze, there is only one way in and one way out. These ancient archetypes have been utilized in spiritual settings but are not exclusive to any particular faith. Join us as we teach students about mindfulness and experience walking a labyrinth to calm the mind and reduce stress.

Due to the labyrinth size, particular rooms on campus will need to be reserved and may affect availability. Please submit your request, and a staff member will verify room availability for your request.

Alcohol and Other Drugs

Alcohol Misuse: Learn how to recognize signs of alcohol or drug misuse and apply at least one effective support strategy in response.

Alcohol Know the Basics: Understand what defines a standard drink size and how alcohol physiologically affects the body.

Substance Use: Understanding the Language: Discover how the words we use can shape conversations around substance use and learn how to talk about it with empathy and respect.

Not Just Letters: Substance Awareness and Leadership: This presentation is tailored for Greek organizations to spark real conversations about substance use, challenge common myths, and empower members to lead with action through active bystander strategies.

Stress Management

Being in college and juggling classes, work, social life, and more can be stressful. This presentation focuses on learning about the different types of stress and understanding symptoms of stress, as well as how to relieve stress in a healthy way. Additionally, on campus resources will be identified to get support and help with stress management.
