Dry January

Dry January what it is, why to try it, how to get started

Dry January is a month-long challenge where people choose to take a break from alcohol throughout the month of January. We invite anyone interested to join us in staying “dry” and take a break from consuming any alcohol. You can do it!

Why Participate?

After the stresses and chaos that come from social, academic and holiday festivities at the end of the fall semester, Dry January can be the perfect challenge to help reset and recharge to start the new year and semester!

How Does This Benefit You?

There are many benefits to taking a break from alcohol; we've listed just a few of them below!

Improved skin! Hydration goes up, inflammation goes down, and your skin will thank you.

Save money! No alcohol means more cash for coffee runs and dinner with friends!

Less brain fog! Improved focus and concentration make it easier to study and ace your exams!

Mood boost! Why doesn't like to be in a good mood? Abstaining from alcohol can help reduce factors like anxiety and stress.

Better rest. Taking a break from alcohol can help you fall asleep faster and help you feel more prepared for the day.

How Do I Start?

Here are some helpful steps to take to get started with Dry January.

  1. Create your “why.” Are you participating in Dry January for better sleep? Less stress? Saving money?
  2. Make a game plan. Select which beverages you will enjoy, like mocktails, sparkling water, juices, etc.
  3. Be intentional. Set specific goals to meet or even tell a friend about your journey so they can hold you accountable.
  4. Focus on the fun! You can still go out and have fun with your friends. You don’t have to change your social life entirely to change your choices.
  5. Give yourself grace. Celebrate your progress and remember it’s not about perfection. If you slip up, keep going.
