The summer is a great time to work on a routine that will help you excel when you return to campus in the Fall. Although your schedule may look different during the summer months, you can still use this time to develop healthy practices.
Improve Sleep
Try to create a consistent bedtime and wake up time that will benefit you when school starts back.
Practice adequate sleep hygiene:
- a cool, dark place to sleep
- wash your bed sheets weekly
- stop screen-use at least 30 minutes before bed
Self-Care
Try to take the time to learn a new self-care activity that you can find the time to do throughout the school year. Here are some options:
- Physical activities: yoga, pilates, walking, biking, lifting weights
- Creative activities: painting, sewing, writing, listening to music
- Other activities: meditation, daily journaling, breathing exercises
Plan for Fall 2025
If you have an idea on how your weekly schedule might look like for Fall 2025, the summer is a great time to develop your schedule to set yourself up for success.
Improve time management skills by using a calendar and/or planner. Don’t forget to include these things when you make your schedule:
- Classes
- Jobs
- Study time
- Organization/Club/Chapter meetings and events
- Time with friends
Support System
Use the summer to reconnect with mentors, advisors, professors, or friends who support your well-being and success.
Set up check-ins or build a communication plan with those who motivate you, so you have a solid support system in place once the semester starts.
Join online communities or student group chats to stay informed and connected.
Skills
Other activities that will set you up for success in the fall: learn to cook/meal prep and practice weekly budgeting.
